It’s time, friends, to debut my author website. No matter how long I avoid posting blogs, linking short stories, and navigating social media, my decision to choose independent/hybrid publishing dictates that I not only become familiar with this routine but also have fun exploring it! So, welcome aboard. Check out the link to my short story, “Meredith, Sybil, and the Shadow People,” and be sure to add your e-mail address as a subscriber; it’ll only take a second. Make certain you peek in on the additional pages, including Author Shout-outs, where I’ll be introducing you to writers I’m discovering along my journey.
Currently, I’m 450 days into crafting The Phantom Wife. I’ve received lots of encouragement and feedback from my writing colleagues at Joe Bunting’s Write Practice, where I’ve connected with a community of talented writers. This summer I studied Story Grid’s tried-and-true method for constructing a novel and recently survived a certified SG editor’s perusal of my manuscript (thank you, Rebekah!). I’m using her suggestions as I enter the final 100 days of editing. Publishing isn’t too far off in the future; it looks as though it will be early 2020. And that’s okay because I have one shot at nailing a debut novel.
Each morning I re-enter the fictional world I’ve created to re-write and edit. I’ve literally no cognizance of passing time until my golden retriever, Bimini, drops his favorite toy (Mr. Otter) at my feet and loudly announces it’s time to play. Happily, I walk away from writing to do just that. Since he’s a character in my novel, he’ll receive some press coverage here.
One thing is certain: Bimini always knows when a phantom is near.
